“The American Folk Art Museum Presents: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts” at Park Avenue Armory, New York City

The American Folk Art Museum Presents: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts

The American Folk Art Museum has  651 red and white American quilts, all of which are on loan from the collection of Joanna S. Rose. It is the largest exhibition of quilts ever held in the city. Every quilt is different!  So wonderful to see these quilts viewed as art.  The show, which is on for a very short time, ends today March 30, 2011.

This exhibit has been written up in the Wall Street Journal on March 19-20, 2011. Nice informative article. And the exhibit was featured on Martha Stewart’s TV program on Hallmark, March28, 2011.

Added on April 2, 2011, to this blog:   An article appeared March 24, 2011,  in The New York Times about Joanna Rose, the owner of the red & white quilts that were just exhibited in New York City at: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/24/finally-mrs-rose-and-the-public-can-see-all-her-rugs/

Also an article in the Huffington Post March 23, 2011, about the exhibit at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kate-kelly/major-quilt-exhibit-spons_b_839490.html

There’s also an app for the Ipad of the exhibit, and one has just come out for the Iphone and Ipod Touch.  Just heard that if you have a device that runs on Google’s Droid OS, there is an app for the red and white quilts available for Droid, Zoom, and maybe Blackberry.

A lot of Buzz about these quilts! The viewing public loves the way the quilts are hung and displayed…very different from what we quilt and non-quilt people have seen before.   Red and white quilts are very collectible as well as loved by many due to their beauty.

“The Sky’s the Limit” Travels Round the World with International Quilt Festival Exhibit

I just learned that my piece ” Buzzards Bay Sunset,” which is traveling for three years with the International Quilt Festival’s “The Sky’s the Limit”  2008   exhibit of forty juried quilts,  was shown in Koningshof in Veldhoven, the Netherlands at the European Quilt Championship 2010.

What a great surprise!  I won’t know all the places worldwide where it has been viewed until it comes home this year.
