Colorado State University’s Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising will feature “Hawaiian Quilts: God in Expression” from February 17 through August 2, 2012. The free exhibition features Hawaiian quilts from the Henry and Angela Hite Collection.

Guest curator Elizabeth Akana will offer a free lecture about the history of Hawaiian quilts. She will also discuss and showcase quilts from her private collection not featured in the exhibition. Check  the web site for more info: http://www.dm.cahs.colostate.edu/welcome/museum/

Originally brought to the islands by New England missionaries, Hawaiian appliqué quilts are unique for their “snowflake” designs.

You don’t have to go to Hawaii to see some fabulous Hawaiian quilts!
