“The Mighty, Misty Monster:” Moby-Dick Embroidered Narratives by Susan Boardman, at Nantucket Whaling Museum, Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, through November 2015

April 19, 2015

“The Mighty Misty Monster”: Moby-Dick Embroidered Narratives  is at the Nantucket Whaling Museum on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts through November 2015, presented by the Nantucket Historical Association.

Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick and its endless possibilities for interpretation inspired artist Susan Boardman’s latest series of embroidered narratives. Drawing on the tradition of illuminated manuscripts, Boardman has adapted the techniques of seventeenth-century raised embroideries to depict richly animated whaleboats, frothy waves, proud ships, and noble, mighty whales, is the write up on the website.  http://www.nantuckethistoricalassociation.com/exhibits/index.html

Susan Boardman’s embroidery and creativity are exquisite. There are seventeen scenes from Herman Melville’s classic Moby-Dick.  You can see them online at:  http://www.susanboardman.com/GalleryMoby-Dick.php

I read the article about the exhibit in “Nantucket Today” magazine, Spring issue 2015.

Boardman had a 2010 exhibit at the Whaling Museum “Sometimes think of me:” Notable Nantucket Women through the Centuries, which was a show of embroidered narratives by her with biographies by Betsy Tyler.  You can go to: http://www.susanboardman.com/GalleryHistoricWomen.php
