The exhibit, “Antique & Contemporary Quilts: Women’s Participation in the Civil War” at the New London Historical Society in New London, New Hampshire, features antique quilts from the period, and replicas and those evocative of the period made by contemporary textile artists from the area.
During the war years, it is estimated that Northern women made and donated between 250,000 and 400,000 quilts to the cause.
